Local Volunteering Celebrated in Style with a night at the VOSCARS updated 16 December 2011
The outstanding efforts of local volunteers and voluntary sector organisations were celebrated at a unique Hollywood-style 'VOSCARS' awards ceremony as part of North Lanarkshire's festivities to mark the European Year of Volunteering 2011.
The VOSCARS, organised by Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire on behalf of the North Lanarkshire Voluntary Sector Partnership Group, took place on Thursday 3 November at Motherwell's GLO Centre. The evening proved a huge success, with 250 volunteers and members of voluntary sector organisations joining together to celebrate local volunteering in style.
Awards were made on the night intwelve categories to reward volunteers, volunteer-engaging organisations, and volunteer teams who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to volunteering or supporting the voluntary sector in the local area during and prior to the last twelve months. Each of the winners was presented with a specially-engraved Oscars-style trophy.
Over 200 nominations were received in the run up to the VOSCARS and the show was hosted by Real Radio's popular drive-time DJ Steve McKenna, who kept the audience entertained with his unique and wacky sense of humour.
